Social Action in Reform Judaism
Marc Rovner, a graduate of the Boston University School of Law, draws on about 30 years of experience as a senior staff attorney at BETA Abstract, LLC. Moreover, Attorney Marc Rovner serves as the managing director for business development across New York, New Jersey, and Florida. Away from work, he is a member of the men’s club and a volunteer board member at Temple Am-Echad near East Rockaway.
Located in New York, Temple Am-Echad is a Jewish congregation that serves southwestern Nassau County and southeastern Queens. It traces its history back to the merging of two congregations on the south shore: Temple Emanu-El of Lynbrook, which was founded in 1920, and Temple Sinai of Long Island, which was founded in 1951. The congregation holds membership in the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ).
Open and inclusive, Reform Judaism is a denomination of Judaism that embraces progressive tenets. To that end, social action and justice are core commitments of practitioners of Reform Judaism. For Reform Jews, social actions include speaking truth to power, holding mitzvah days, hosting collection drives, sermons that advocate social justice, and educating other people regarding matters of concern.
