Rangers Announce David Quinn as New Head Coach
Marc Rovner, an attorney in East Rockaway, New York, serves as the director of business development and senior staff attorney at BETA Abstract LLC. When he’s not busy overseeing the title insurance company’s Legal Department, Marc Rovner of East Rockaway enjoys watching sports and is a season ticket holder for the New York Rangers.
In May 2018, the New York Rangers announced that David Quinn, the former men’s hockey coach at Boston University (BU), would be replacing Alain Vigneault as the team’s head coach. He is the third graduate of BU that is currently coaching in the National Hockey League; Mike Sullivan is a coach for the Penguins and John Hynes coaches the Devils.
While coaching for BU, Quinn’s team won one Beanpot tournament and two Hockey East championships. They also competed in the NCAA tournament four times during Quinn’s five seasons with the team. Moreover, he coached several hockey stars as they worked their way to the NHL, including Clayton Keller, Charlie McAvoy, and Jack Eichel.
Known as a players’ coach, Quinn grew close to his players during their time at BU. He also demonstrated a strong ability to develop young players and help them discover their full potential. It was this talent that played a big role in the Rangers’ decision to hire him as their new head coach and propel Quinn directly from the NCAA to an NHL head coaching position, something that has happened only five times in the past 50 years.
Negotiations with Quinn reportedly took several weeks and resulted in a five-year contract.
