Rangers Add Goaltending Depth in Marek Mazanec
The recipient of a Magna Cum Laude bachelor’s in political science and a juris doctor from Boston University, Marc Rovner is an award-winning attorney who capitalizes on over 30 years of legal experience in his role as the general counsel and director of business development for BETA Abstract, LLC. When he isn’t managing the insurance company’s legal department, attorney and East Rockway native Marc Rovner enjoys attending home games of the NHL’s New York Rangers.
Though Rangers starting goaltender Henrik Lundqvist has been strong since the 2005–06 season, the team signed Marek Mazanec in December for the remainder of the 2017–18 season in an effort to bolster the Rangers’ goaltending depth. Manzanec was subsequently assigned to the team’s American Hockey League affiliate in Hartford, where he was expected to share playing time with current goaltenders Chris Nell and Alexander Georgiev.
A 26-year-old Czech Republic native, Marek Mazanec was originally selected by the Nashville Predators in the sixth round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He has appeared in 31 career NHL games and boasts 2.97 goals against average (GAA) to go along with a .895 save percentage. He has won four of his five starts since joining Hartford and has a 2.93 GAA and .910 save percentage.
